Saundra and Charles Gray

Saundra and Charles Gray are native Floridians in their 60's. Married for 43 years, three children, and 2 grandchildren, and one expected March, 1999. They are a team of two enjoy sailing, adventure, and travel.

Charles is Chairman of the Board and senior lawyer of the 70 lawyer Gray, Harris & Robinson, P.A., with offices in Orlando, Melbourne, and Tallahassee. He has served as Chairman of the Florida State Turnpike Authority, County Attorney for Orange County, Florida, and Chairman of numerous organizations.

Saundra served eight years as a member of the Governing Board of the St. Johns River Water Management District and two years as Chairman. She served as a member of the Governing Board of the Jacksonville Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank and as a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.

For over 25 years, Saundra and Charles were in the purebred Santa Gertrudis cattle business at their DeBary headquarters ranch, Gemini Springs, which is now a park. They both served as officers of Santa Gertrudis Breeders International with Charles serving as President during 1980 and 1981.

Saundra and Charles have been sailing for over 20 years, first as bare-boat charters and then as owners of Sea Gem, a Gulfstar 54 sailcruiser they had built in 1986. They have sailed extensively in the Bahamas and have chartered in the Pacific Northwest, the Caribbean, Tahiti, Tonga, and Hawaii. They sailed Sea Gem to Spain and back on the 1992 Transarc and the America 500, a rally organized by World Cruising to celebrate and replicate Columbus' historic sail 500 years before. The longest leg of that trip was over 3,000 miles from the Canary Islands to San Salvador, Bahamas.

They sailed Sea Gem several times in the St. Petesburg/Isla Mujeres, Mexico, race, and recently sailed to Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala where they explored the outer reefs of Belize, the Rio Dulce River, and Lago Isabel in Guatemala.

Sea Gem is one of 21Gulfstar 54s designed by Richard Lazzara and built by the Lazarra brothers Gulfstar company, which has since been sold to Viking Yachts. Charles and Saundra have spent most of 1998 preparing Sea Gem for the Millennium Odyssey. The Grays and Sea Gem are now ready for this long anticipated voyage.
